The photographer sounds like a wonderful gift. I'd love that gift.

Holidays are so hard. We know what we want them to be, but we have to be honest about what they have actually become.

I love this idea. Really I do. Like Polly's family, my ILs. . . well. . . it's important to Hubby to do things his family's way when we have Christmas with them.

This year, though, I think we're going to give to each of the families a photo sitting and 8x10 as our gift (for all of us together, and then each sub-family.) I have a photographer I know who does beach family sittings, and I think it will be a good compromise for what we value and what they value, kwim? And we'll get stuff for their kids.

I am not buying 100% handmade items this year. You obviously cannot buy a handmade copy of a CD or Book. But I am buying all of the girls' toys from craftsmen and/or making them myself.

I heard a new term on etsy: craftivism. I love it.

If I get my crafting supplies from Walmart, does this defeat the point? :)

It's a wonderful idea. I'm already starting to get depressed about Christmas. The InLaws have a huge gift exchange and they are very into conspicuous consumption. Over the years I have made matching flannel nightshirts for everybody, knitted hats, mittens, fleece hats, cornhole games, food baskets -- running out of energy and ideas!
