That’s about all of the electric media that I consume outside of the internet. And when you don’t have television (in order to save money and save our children from widespread, unadulterated marketing) I end up hearing both ALL THE TIME. Olivia watches Toy Story at least every other day. She watches part of it every day. I am becoming intimate with all of the nuance and depth of Woody and the gang. And since my other brain-rot outlet is NPR I have developed some fun characterizations of your favorite toy Cowboy.
Woody is the equivalent of G.W. Bush. The All American Cowboy who’s used to things being his way. Then along comes Buzz Lightyear (the Democratic Party) which comes along and spoils all the wild western fun. Now, since Andy (who represents America) wants Woody and Buzz to get along, they’ve gotta find some way to make some bipartisan progress.
It’s a bumpy road, and Buzz tries to overhaul the way things have always been done in Woody-World. Slink, the loyal staid dog (die hard right winger) tries to get the gang to stick by their man no matter what, but comes under pressure from the super-left Potato Head. Potato Head is like Micheal Moore, ready at any moment to show how stupid Woody is, as is everything he ever stood for.
Potato Head is very convincing, and even manages to shake the confidence of the usual Woody Followers: Rex, Ham and maybe even BoPeep. But, what Andy wants and needs is for the two parties to not just get along, but work together.
If America is as lucky as our favorite Pixar film, Buzz will help Woody to reevaluate his policies concerning the toys in Sid’s room (the War in Iraq). They’ll work together to not only get out there, but help the toys to stop being blown up and abused, and they will be able to govern themselves even after Buzz and Woody exit quickly. Returning to a stable and happy Andy’s Room.
Yes. I need to get out more.
that’s HILARIOUS!
