Rob in Translation

I started to make the coffee this morning while Rob is still getting himself out of bed after a trans-pacific flight home from Australia. This is an annual trip for us and we’re finally getting used to it. Anyway, I am trying to decide whether to make our normal aero-press coffee or the “flat white” coffee that Rob showed me after he got home yesterday.

The whole thing reminds me of the scene in Lost in Translation when Bill Murray is drunk in the tub and he calls his wife, “We should eat more like the people in Japan. I don’t want all that pasta.” Rob always comes home from the other side of the world with all these different ways to do things.

This is the first trip I’m aware of that Rob actually got to enjoy being in a big city. He wandered around Sydney and ate food and went to the beach (even though it was winter). This is also the first time we managed to have a ton of fun while he was out of town. We went to Ocean Isle with his parents and enjoyed being beach bums for a few days. I would love to share pictures from the trip, but my inlaws have them all.

Hopefully the fun we’re having now is investing in a future where I don’t have to overnight carpet samples passive-agressively to him while he drinks vodka in hotel bars and spends a pseudo-romantic weekend with someone half his age.

Somehow that’s still one of my favorite movies….

Itching

to write.

I’ve spent a few years trying to blog on a theme, but the problem is I have too many interests to limit my writing. I always find myself writing short essays on something which I haven’t marketed myself as being interested in, so I just save it on my hard drive and move on. It’s a shame to have all these thoughts just wasting away on my hard drive, so I set out to begin a new blog venture… wait…. why? I have this old dusty blog just sitting here waiting for me to give it some attention.

It’s funny to look back at our old posts. We started out as a family blog with a Lutheran bent. We are still Lutherans, but you’ll find us much less likely to go to the teeth on “lutheran issues” now that we’ve been here a while. In fact, I would suspect any of my thoughts on the subject no one would be interested in reading. And my guess is Rob is not going to grace us with his thoughts as he is too busy trotting the globe. Instead, I will use this old domain to bring this new evolved family blog…. or mommy blog I guess…. to the world. It is good to see where we’ve been and the whole scope of who we are.

So here we are. Welcome back to those who’ve come. New thoughts, new tags, new categories. It’s a work in progress, just like the rest of our family.

Still here…

We’re still around, and I’ve been getting the itch to start blogging again. I won’t make any promises–I’ve done that too many times and not followed through–but hopefully anyone still left out there will see something in this space soon…
